Name:Abigail Therese Hart
Bio:
ABIGAIL 'ABBY' HART
Full Name: Abigail Therese Hart

Nicknames/Aliases: Abby, 'midget' (by some of her more antagonistic peers), 'Thabby' - a nickname that caught on within her family when a young family friend was unable to pronounce 'Abby'.

Gender: Female.

Race: Human.

Age: 21

DOB: 12th of June 1986.

Birth Location: Oxford, England.

Sexual orientation: Straight (mostly).
IN TOMBS OF GOLD

Physical Description: At five foot three, and 110 pounds, Abby really does live up to her nickname of 'midget'. She has a round, somewhat elfin face that makes her look about 12 years old - something that drives her completely insane, especially when she's attempting to get in to a bar, or a club. Her hair is dark, and she wears it about shoulder length, usually, sometimes a little curled, if she lets it air-dry rather than blow-dry. Her eyes are blue, and deep set - her most outstanding feature, other than her ridiculously short height.

Distinguishing marks: She has a tattoo of a heart shaped padlock on the back of her neck, and a small, decorative cross on her right wrist.

AND LAPIS LAZULI

Personality: Abigail would best be described as 'eclectic' or perhaps 'kooky'. She doesn't try to promote that image, it just seems to follow her. Whether it's the clothes she wears, the music she listens to, or the books she reads, she always seems to manage to be a little left of center, for most people's likings. She's moderately extroverted, but hasn't got much of a sense of tact, or socially appropriateness, so tends to put her foot in her mouth a lot - mostly by making bad taste jokes at the expense of others, though she doesn't mean to be hurtful. She's got a wicked sense of humor, all be it rather a dark, cruel one, and can lay a person flat, verbally, in seconds. She's got a quick wit, and is naturally quite intelligent, though certainly not a Rhodes scholar. She is naturally curious about just about everything, especially if it is a bit off-beat and weird, though her constant questioning and lack of judgment sometimes leave people a little bewildered, at best, or downright put off, at worst. She forms attachments easily, and is therefore quite often let down by people whom she trusted too swiftly. As a result of this, she is attempting (though it is insanely difficult for her) to shut herself off a bit, and become a strong, aloof, icy type of person. It isn't working so well for her. She is, naturally, the kind of person who attracts people - whether because they find her a curiosity, or because they genuinely like her company.

Personal Background: Abby was born in Oxford, England, the daughter of an English writer (Theresa Clark, or 'Mum'), and an American university professor (Oliver Hart, or 'Dad').

Her mother had had some success as a children's author, penning off-beat, almost warped 'fairy tale' type stories for 8 to 12 year olds, and her father lectured on Logic and Philosophy at Oxford University. The family were fairly well off, due in part to her mother's writing, and also her father's inheritance (Oliver Hart came from a wealthy, established family who resided in Seattle, WA) and Abby's childhood was more or less idyllic - she went to good schools, had a reasonable amount of friends (though even then she was a bit too wacky for some people), had the requisite picture perfect family holidays, birthdays, Christmases, and so on.

That all changed when Abby was eight years old. Her mother became terribly ill, and rather than see Abby suffer, watching her mother fade away in front of her eyes, her Father elected to send her to stay with relatives of his in the USA, 'until mummy gets better'. Unfortunately, Abby wasn't stupid. She knew exactly what was happening to her mother, and the distance only made it worse. Whilst living with her Aunt and Uncle in Louisiana, Abby became more and more withdrawn, preferring to spend her time in her room, with her books, than with 'other children her own age', and she failed to make friends at school.

Two months later, her mother was dead, and her father arrived to take her to Seattle, his birth place, where he owned a property left to him by his parents, and where the University had offered him a teaching position.

Whilst Abby had been a touch odd before her mother's death, she was downright bizarre afterwards. It is not particularly unusual for children to experience an elevated interest in death and spirituality after the passing of a loved one, but Abigail became downright morbid, wanting to know about burials and decomposition, whether or not there was an afterlife, and whether or not her mother might 'come back' - as a ghost, as a zombie...as anything at all. At first Oliver Hart tried to answer his daughter's questions by referencing philosophical arguments, but they were utterly lost on an eight year old (even a reasonably smart one) and he soon gave up, too bewildered and upset by everything, himself, to be of much use to Abby.

Whilst Abigail and her father had previously had an exceptionally good relationship, they became like strangers living under the same roof. Within a few months of moving to Seattle he had closed off completely from her, barely emerging from his study, when he was at home (which was rarely). Abby rapidly learned how to take care of herself - and how to exploit her father's lack of interest in her to her advantage. She would wander the streets at night, alone or with a group of 'friends', rather than kick about the dusty, old building, waiting for the silence to break. One several occasions the police delivered her home, with a warning about 'teenage delinquency' which was really a caution, to her father, to keep her safe, but Mr. Hart was still a blank wall - nodding in all the right places, but not taking any of it in.

She threw herself in to school, though the subjects bored her and the teachers annoyed her, and got quite impressive marks in her final years. During high school, her 'obsession' (though naturally, she didn't see it that way) with death led her to an interest in the paranormal. She'd been reading about ghosts and apparitions for years, as part of her curiosity with the afterlife, however several factors (including several of her friends' penchant for horror movies) led her to read up on other, more sinister things: vampires, werewolves, zombies, krakens, succubi, incubi, urban legends, demons, angels...whatever she could get her hands on. Her interest began to consume her, a little - especially when she went back and read her Mother's children's books, and found references to many disturbing legends, stories and myths cleverly disguised as tales for tots. Most of her friends began to give her a wide berth, unless absolutely necessary, but it didn't bother her too much, for the most part. She had better things to do than sit around playing idiotic teenage drinking games and making out with ugly, awkward boys in closets.

When she graduated, she elected to study at her father's university - and to study the subject he taught - partly, though she wouldn't admit it, in a bid to get close to him again. However, the year she began university, her father was offered a teaching position in New York, an opportunity he claimed was 'too good to pass up', though he would not look her in the eye, when he said it. The possibility of her moving with him was never even broached - it was taken as a given that she would stay in Seattle, and he would leave.

Originally the plan had been for her to stay in the 'family home' - but the cost of its upkeep, bills and so on - and the cost of living for her Father, in his new city, were too much, and Mr. Hart elected to sell his property, advising his daughter to find somewhere nice to rent - preferably somewhere reasonably cheap.

That wasn't, however, the reason she chose Old Town Towers.

Abigail had come across mentions of the Towers, in her extensive reading. Mostly in old history books on the area, or occasionally on message boards on the internet. It seemed to have quite the reputation for being a little bit 'weird', though she could never find much more information than that. That, and the fact that the rent was ridiculously cheap, made her decision easy. Not two weeks after her Father moved to New York, Abby moved in to apartment 5C.

Her contact with her father, since then, has been minimal - the occasional e-mail, and bi-annually, a phone-call - generally at Christmas time, or on her birthday. He has returned to Seattle twice, and not informed her, claiming later that it was a business trip, and his schedule was too tight.

Not long after moving to the Towers, Abigail began to have thoroughly bizarre dreams. Dreams that often seemed more real than what happened in her everyday life. Many of them involved blood, and places and people that seemed familiar, but that she had no conscious recollection of having known. Given the timing, and the fact that she'd never experienced anything like it before moving to the Towers, she privately assumes that someone - or something - is screwing with her. She has not confided these dreams to anyone, either generally or specifically, as she has no desire to be seen as crazier than she already is. However, they persist - fairly regularly - nightmares, sometimes, and beautiful, but painful, fantasies on other occasions. Now and again she wonders if perhaps she's just (finally) going completely insane.

MIRACULOUS OIL; ODOR OF VIOLET

Family: Father (Oliver Hart, 55).
Mother (Theresa Hart-Mills, deceased).
Aunt and Uncle (Marianne and Patrick Mills, 47 and 53 respectively, residents of New Orleans,

Race and Personal Weaknesses: Human. The usual human weaknesses - for example, being run over. Abigail is not going to survive being hit by a MAC truck. Strange as it may seem.

She's also extremely susceptible to falling horribly in love with people, and then having the whole thing implode nastily and messily.

Magical Abilities: Nada.

Skills and Training: Nothing specific to speak of. She's a third year philosophy student, and has a freakishly exhaustive knowledge of the occult (for someone of her age). She can also read tarot cards, though any accuracy therein would be coincidence or showmanship, rather than any particular psychic ability.

Likes: The occult, horror movies (especially dodgey old ones like 'Evil Dead' and 'Fright Night'), horror and or supernatural authors - H.P Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe, Anne Rice, George Gordan Lord Byron, W.B Yeats...anything she can get her hands on, alternative religious texts (Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible, for example), poetry, live music, sleep, dreaming, walking around at night, preferably with cigarettes and preferably alone.

Dislikes: Condescending individuals, getting up early, people who look at her as if she is clinically insane, too much noise, when the power goes out.

Job: Student. More or less independently wealthy, although she's beginning to wish she had a job - partly for something to do, and partly so that she doesn't feel as if she's leeching off her father.

Residence: Apartment 5C, Old Town Towers.

TRAMPLED CLAY

Plot Ties

Plot Tie One: Neighbors with whom she is moderately friendly and/or has a decent rapport. Maybe even a few 'friends' (shock horror).

Plot Tie Two: Some supernatural asshole to drive her completely round the twist. That'll be fun.

Plot Tie Three: Someone to give her a job, so she can earn her keep and not feel like she's leeching off her absentee father.

Plot Tie Four: Maybe some individuals to form some kind of paranormal research society.

In tombs of gold and lapis lazuli
Bodies of holy men and women exude
Miraculous oil, odour of violet.

But under heavy loads of trampled clay
Lie bodies of the vampires full of blood;
Their shrouds are bloody and their lips are wet.
